From Black to Matte

A previous customer had Protective Solutions New England install Paint Protection Film film on his Audi RS5 fully covering the hood, fenders, bumper, and mirrors. He decided to bring it back and have the old film removed and replaced entirely with matte film. After heating and peeling off the previous install and completely scrubbing down the car the RS5 was ready for a fresh new look.

Every inch of exposed paint is going to be protected by the film with all edges wrapped around body lines to hide any seams. To achieve this amount of coverage, stripping off most parts of the car was essential. The bumpers, mirrors, rocker panels, and window clips had to be removed in order to provide the desired amount of protection and hardcore  appearance.

INSTALLATION

The installer first applied the film with a slip solution and squeegeed out any bubbles or wrinkles to ensure a solid bond between the paint and the adhesive. Heating and using an adhesive promoter on parts wrapped into the car was used in order to hide any protruding edges of film. Due to the massive amount of coverage required for this job, the door, rocker, and quarter panel on each side were made from a single 12 foot by 5 foot sheet of material. Because of the aggressive design, trimming and tucking excess film into the recesses of the body proved difficult and time consuming, but the end result was well worth it. Stretching along the fluid bodylines revealed a flat finish flush with the paint, nearly indistinguishable from a much more expensive actual matte paint job from a body shop. We left the grill untouched and covered the front lower fascia in transparent Paint Protection Film paint protection film, leaving a glossy accent to the overall dark guise of this RS5.
