From Black to Matte

A previous customer had Protective Solutions New England install PremiumShield film on his Audi RS5 fully covering the hood, fenders, bumper, and mirrors. He decided to bring it back and have the old film removed and replaced entirely with matte film. After heating and peeling off the previous install and completely scrubbing down the car the RS5 was ready for a fresh new look.

Every inch of exposed paint is going to be protected by the film with all edges wrapped around body lines to hide any seams. To achieve this amount of coverage, stripping off most parts of the car was essential. The bumpers, mirrors, rocker panels, and window clips had to be removed in order to provide the desired amount of protection and hardcore  appearance.

INSTALLATION

The installer first applied the film with a slip solution and squeegeed out any bubbles or wrinkles to ensure a solid bond between the paint and the adhesive. Heating and using an adhesive promoter on parts wrapped into the car was used in order to hide any protruding edges of film. Due to the massive amount of coverage required for this job, the door, rocker, and quarter panel on each side were made from a single 12 foot by 5 foot sheet of material. Because of the aggressive design, trimming and tucking excess film into the recesses of the body proved difficult and time consuming, but the end result was well worth it. Stretching along the fluid bodylines revealed a flat finish flush with the paint, nearly indistinguishable from a much more expensive actual matte paint job from a body shop. We left the grill untouched and covered the front lower fascia in transparent PremiumShield paint protection film, leaving a glossy accent to the overall dark guise of this RS5.

How tough is Premium Shield?

Several months ago Protective Solutions installed PremiumShield® Elite on a client’s 2012 Mercedes SLS Roadster.  Today we learned that a client had an accident over the weekend.  Fortunately, the owner was not injured and was able to drive the car away.blog

As you can see from the pictures, the body damage is extensive.  Repairs will require a new bumper, headlight, fender, door, carbon fiber side mirror, rocker panel, quarter panel, rear bumper, extensive paint work and undetermined mechanical repairs. The Team at Protective Solutions has been extremely impressed with the performance of PremiumShield®.

The Team at Protective Solutions has been extremely impressed with the performance of PremiumShield®. While we could not remove the entire kit for insurance reasons, the paint under the protected areas we inspected were undamaged. The heavy marking on the bumper and hood simply peeled away while the unprotected areas suffered damage directly to the painted surfaces.

This extreme real world example demonstrates why Paint Protection Film, aka Clearbra, is an excellent investment in protecting the appearance of your car, truck, motorcycle or boat.

Stay tuned for more updates on the SLS…

2014 Corvette Stingray

Stingray8The new Corvette Stingray’s redesign offers unparalleled performance control with a revived luxurious interior. Optimal weight reduction comes from carbon fiber structural components and a new aluminum space frame that replaces the outdated steel frames of previous models. The new steering system is boasted as five times stiffer than before with the smallest steering wheel ever in a Corvette, revealing an advanced digital control panel. You can choose from five custom driving modes where you can control all pertinent settings, from changing the radio to managing performance-level traction and handling. The Stingray’s new look comes in conjunction with Corvette Racing so it’s no surprise this sports car can hit 60 in only 3.8 seconds, although one was clocked in at 200 MPH on a closed Texas highway.
